Featured Dog: Prince

Looking for an easy-keeper? Then Prince is your man. Prince has been well cared for his whole life. He is a happy, well-adjusted Sheltie boy just waiting for his forever family. He loves going for walks, riding in a car, running and playing outside in a fenced yard, and playing fetch with his toys. Prince is a loyal companion and would prefer to be your only pet. Prince has been patiently waiting for his forever family, and we're all a little stumped why this great guy has had to wait so long...he's truly a prince among Shelties!

AGE: 10 years (born January, 2000), but acts much younger!
SIZE: Prince stands 17-18 inches and weighs about 30 pounds.
TEMPERAMENT: Prince is initially shy, but quickly warms up and will be at your side. He barks at visitors, but settles down quickly. He is smart and affectionate, with a cheerful personality. Prince loves to please you, play with you, and cuddle with you.
DOGS: Prince has gotten along well with his foster family’s other dogs, but would prefer to be an only dog.
CATS: A home without cats is recommended. He patrols the yard for, and chases, bunnies and squirrels.
FENCE: Prince likes running and fetching toys, and hanging out in the yard to watch the birds and squirrels. Having a fence would allow him to do so. We will consider a home without a fence if his adopter will commit to always keeping Prince on a leash when outside, for his lifetime, and there is a plan to provide adequate exercise in a safe manner.
LEASH MANNERS: Prince walks well on a leash, though he may pull when he sees a squirrel or other dogs being walked.
HOUSETRAINED: Yes.
CRATE TRAINED: Yes.
OBEDIENCE TRAINING: He is well-mannered, a fast learner, and very teachable. He is extremely treat motivated, so even though he is 10, you could still work with him. He quickly learned to obey commands for food, to go outside, and after being trained with treats, comes back inside when he’s called.
KIDS: Prince will avoid children until he gets comfortable with them.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate - Prince would love regular walks. He is spry and seems much younger than his years, so moderate activity via walks and playtime are great. He enjoys playing in the house with squeaky, soft toys. He is patient with brushing between baths. He is a rascal about getting into waste baskets and tearing up tissues, so be sure to put those out of his reach. Otherwise, Prince’s foster family allows him the run of the house while they’re gone and he has not been a problem.
BARKING: Prince barks when he gets excited, but not excessively so. He will let you know that he is happy to see you when you come home. He’ll also bark if he sees something going on outside of his fenced yard.
HEALTH ISSUES: Prince has no known health issues, and is a good eater. He is at a healthy weight and since he’s so food-motivated, care should be taken to avoid weight gain.

Prince will be a happy and loyal companion to that special someone. He will love to please you, especially for a treat!
