Available Dogs

Please note that MNSR does not operate a central shelter. Our dogs live in foster homes until they find their best and last homes. An application must be submitted and approved, prior to meeting any of our dogs. For information on how to adopt these wonderful dogs, please visit our How to Adopt page for a summary of the process and a link to the application.

Clicking on a picture below will take you to more detail about the Sheltie and explains the type of home that will best meet that Sheltie’s needs, and indicates if a fence is required, and whether the Sheltie can be placed with children, dogs or cats. Please note that we cannot guarantee the availability of the Shelties in our program, and that our priority is to meet the needs of the Shelties in our care.

Bodie was in rough shape when he came to MNSR. He may have been a stray for some time before he was taken to a shelter as he was very underweight and scruffy looking. It's possible he was mistreated as he doesn't seem to like men - he's a little guy who is generally friendly, but can be selective in who he likes and doesn't like.
Bodie's age is estimated to be between 8 - 10 years old.

Bodie is undergoing medical treatment and is not ready for adoption at this time.

Rusty is a very easy going and good natured dog. He will be twelve years old in January. Rusty is nearly blind but he does appear able to distinguish light and dark. Rusty currently weighs about 25 pounds but he is very overweight. When he came into MNSR he weighed over thirty pounds. Rusty has a small build and should weigh about 15 pounds.

Rusty is nearly blind but he does appear able to distinguish light and dark. His vision is currently being assessed and MNSR is hoping there may be options to improve his vision. Click on Rusty's photo to learn more about him.

James is 5 months old, 25 pounds and growing! He is believed to be a Border Collie mix.

He was found in a field when he was just 8 weeks old, very thin and he was covered in mange. His mange was successfully treated and he has spent the last 3 months in his foster home learning about living in a home. He is a true puppy- very curious, social, he loves people, other dogs, toys and food. His foster says he's a fast learner, he has been to puppy kindergarten and has learned some manners, he's working on house training, and he's ready to find a new home. His foster mom says he must have a secure fenced yard.

James is living in a foster home in Fargo ND so any potential adopter will need to be willing to travel to Fargo to meet him.   Click on the photo to learn more about James.
Sky
Sky is a people and dog friendly Sheltie.  He is approximately 12 ½ years old. Sky is hard of hearing and gets his cues from his foster sister, MNSR alum Tessa and his foster humans. Sky is learning some dog sign language to help him communicate (sit, come, quiet, yes, down). Sky loves to be anywhere his people and Tessa are. Sky has a never-ending ‘smile’ on his handsome face.

Sky would enjoy another older, respectful dog in his new home or an owner who is home a lot. He doesn't like to be left alone when Tessa goes for a walk, but he can't walk long distances due to hip/leg weakness. He loves to play-bow and chase a bit with Tessa but because of stiffness and arthritis his play time is limited. Sky is on thyroid and some pain meds which have helped increase his activity level. A home with few steps is best for him.

Sky is a smart boy who learns fast. He barks when he's hungry, when he is happy to see his people (he settles down quickly), when he has to go potty and when he sees foster sister Tessa barking.

Sky is a larger Sheltie and weighs around 40 pounds. He is reliably house trained and walks nicely on leash however he cannot walk long distance. Click on Sky's photo to learn more about him.
