Rainbow Bridge Memories

This page is dedicated in loving memory to the MNSR foster and adopted Shelties who are waiting for us at the Rainbow Bridge.

Rainbow Bridge Stories

Our beloved Dixie has crossed the Rainbow Bridge on February 14th, 2020. We adopted her in October, 2013. She was just a few weeks shy of her 14th birthday when she died. Dixie was everything to us. She was the queen of the house and the queen of our hearts. We are thankful to the MN Sheltie Rescue organization for assisting her prior to coming to our family. She was a kind and gentle spirit. She loved and expected her walks! She brought us so much happiness!

In January 2012 Lilly was brought to our house for possible adoption. Cathie saw how small she was and figured Steve would not want to have her come live with us, but to Steve, Lilly looked like she really needed a good home with owners who would give her lots of affection. Lilly could best be described as cute and sassy. We got a kick out of how she showed much more attachment and affection to Cathie than to Steve. Once she made up her mind on something, that was that. Steve would take her for many long walks, take her to the coffee shop for treats, and even made a special platform in the back seat of the car for Lilly when traveling. Made no difference, it was Cathie all the way. We miss her in many ways. It's a real adjustment to come home and not have her happily greet us at the door. We take lots of comfort in knowing that no matter what she dealt with prior to coming to our house, once she got here life was good for her.

The moment I saw Loki, barely any fur and thin, I was in love. I didn’t care if he grew his hair back or not, I just wanted him to know how much he meant to me and how much he was loved. He loved our grandkids, tolerated the cat, had a secret admiration for our shy girl CoCoa, teased Majick when he was a pup, and ran with Hazel and Jake when he was at his best. One of his most favorite things to do was to wander our yard. He was content to find a spot in the sun and go to sleep. Always needed a personal escort in though. People talk of heart dogs and while I love each and every one of mine, Loki was my heart dog. He taught me how to be patient, calm, open and how to love unconditionally. For this and much more, he is already hugely missed. Last night my sweet boy told me that he was ready to go. It broke our hearts saying our goodbyes but it was the right thing to do for him. All he ever wanted was to please us (me in particular) and it was what we could do for him.

Eight years ago, I asked MNSR if we could foster the next Sheltie/Pom. The very next week, we met with Peanut’s owner and learned that he was 7 years old, not house broke, and strong willed. The owner had contacted other rescues but they couldn’t take him. We were his last hope before going to an overcrowded shelter. We loaded him in the car inside his crate. He got out & climbed in my lap. We realized he had picked us & he was home.
