Chance

My dear Chance crossed the rainbow bridge on Sept. 20, 2022 at the wonderful age of 15 years. I think Chance really adopted me rather than the other way around. The very first day I brought him home he jumped up on the couch and sat up like a gopher in the crook of my arm.  I knew right then that I was keeping him. Chance loved life. He faced every obstacle as if it was no big deal. He experienced a front leg amputation, heart murmur, Lyme disease, chest puncture from a dog attack, and towards the end, arthritis, hearing and sight loss. Yet nothing stopped him from enjoying life to the fullest. He taught me so much about friendship, loyalty, being strong, loving, happy-go-lucky and most of all humility.

He loved winning races with his buddies Bandit and Dasher because he could change direction on a dime with his front leg. Most people meeting him for the first time never noticed he was missing a leg. Going for a walk was his favorite pastime. When he couldn’t walk anymore he sat back and enjoyed the ride in his stroller. He also earned his CGC, helped with Puppy Kindergarten as a demo dog and was a foster brother to many shelties. He loved camping, hiking and napping. I miss him dearly, but I know he is running around pain free in heaven with his Sheltie friends Neela, Dasher, Jake, Bandit, Foxie and Petey. Run Chance, run!
