Age: 2 years (BD March 2024)

Size: 13.9 lbs.; 13 inches at shoulder

Temperament: Stormy is sweet, friendly and loving. She is shy initially with people she does not know, but quickly overcomes this when a treat is offered. Stormy is very affectionate, and follows her foster mom around the house and often jumps in her lap for cuddles. Stormy startles when she hears thunder, fireworks or loud noises, and comes running for reassurance, comforting and safety.

Fence: Stormy loves to race from end to end in the fenced yard, especially if she spots a rabbit or squirrel! While she would love a fenced yard, we will consider a home that will commit to keeping Stormy on a leash outside at all times, for her lifetime, with a plan for daily exercise and activity, and safety precautions such as door gates or other measures to prevent accidental escape.

Dogs: Stormy gets along with the dogs in her foster home. She is very curious with other dogs on walks and is interested in meeting them. While she enjoys other dogs, she is all about her person and gets very attached. We think Stormy could adapt to being an only dog.

Cats: Unknown. There are no cats in her foster home.

Children: Stormy has not lived with kids. When she has encountered kids while on a walk, she is shy and gets nervous if they start running around. She would feel safer in a home with adults, or with calm, older children if they understand about giving a dog space and choice in interaction.

Crate: Stormy currently uses a crate during transport only. She is not crated when her foster mom leaves the home.

Housetrained: Yes.

Car Rides: Stormy is quiet and calm when riding in a crate in the car for her safety. Car rides have been limited to vet visits.

Responds to Cues: Stormy has not had formal training. She learns quickly. She responds to her name and recalls when asked. Stormy would benefit from training classes or an adopter who is interested in training her. She is very fast and agile, and we believe she has potential for agility, herding or flyball.

Leash Walks: Stormy learned how to walk on a leash while in rescue and she  LOVES going for walks. She gets excited when she sees the harness and puts her head right into it! Stormy is double leashed for walks for her safety as she gets startled with loud noises or the unexpected. She is very alert on walks and will notice bunnies, squirrels and even the occasional tumbleweed branch moving across her path.

Activity Level: Medium. Stormy likes her daily romps in the yard and going for walks. While she is athletic, she also is very calm in the house and enjoys napping in dog beds and lounging in her favorite chair. She has started playing with toys and enjoys chewing on nylabones and other chews. Barking: Stormy will bark with joy when excited, such as when her person comes home, if it’s time to eat, or if her Sheltie foster brothers start barking. She also barks when she hears the garbage truck.

Health: Stormy has no known health issues. While in rescue, she was spayed and had a dental, vaccinations, 4dx, and lab work.

Experienced Home: We are seeking a dog sports or therapy dog home in the Twin Cities for Stormy. She has adjusted readily from a life as a breeder dog to living in a home as a companion. She will need an adopter who can give her time and space to adjust to a new environment and who understands how to support a dog who can be shy in new situations to feel safe.

Adoption fee: $450

We adopt locally to the Twin Cities metro area of Minnesota.
