Gibby
While we don’t know much about Gibby’s history, we do know that his sweet personality and easygoing nature made the decision to add him to our family very easy. Gibby was happiest when he was near one of his people. He would lay outside the bathroom door or find someone to just lay near and sleep.
He loved his dog beds, beds of all sizes and shapes. Sometimes he laid in the beds and sometimes just laid partially in the bed, it didn’t matter to him as long as there was a bed, he was happy.
Gibby loved going on walks, but as he aged there was more exploring and marking then walking. If he couldn’t go on a walk, he loved being in the yard. Occasionally, he’d get a spurt of energy and zoom around but mostly he just wandered stopping to enjoy all of the good smells. He was deaf and almost blind but could see shapes and if something moved outside, he went into bark alert mode.
He loved having his ears scratched and if you didn’t scratch them enough, he’d come closer asking for more. Every night before bed, he’d get his ears scratched and then get lifted up on the bed for his bedtime treat. Once he found his spot, there wasn’t anything moving him until he stood up in the morning waiting to be lifted down.
He had a very small bark for a Sheltie his size but his personality made up for it. Gibby was the ‘dog in charge’ and would prove it by laying in the doorway so the other dogs couldn’t or wouldn’t walk by. When he had his dental treat, he’d walk around with it hanging out of his mouth like a cigar taunting the other dogs.
When Gibby was diagnosed with nasal cancer in October 2018, we expected him to be with us for 3-6 months. That 3-6 months turned into more than two years. And every additional day he was with us was a gift. Gibby, you were so loved!
